Peter N. Silvestri has served as a Cook County Board commissioner since 1994. He is chairman of the Zoning and Building Committee and the Building and Litigation subcommittees, and he is vice chairman of the Contract Compliance, Human Relations, Law Enforcement, Building, and Forest Preserve Real Estate committees. He is a member of the Capital Development; Finance; Health and Hospitals; Roads and Bridges; Rules and Administration; Criminal Justice; Homeland Security and Emergency Management; Legislation and Intergovernmental Relations; and Technology committees, as well as the Finance, Land Management, Forest Preserve Annexation, and Brookfield Zoo committees for the Forest Preserve District. He also serves as a member of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning representing Cook County. A former president and past trustee of the village of Elmwood Park, Silvestri is a founding member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus. He is a former member and president of the Elmwood Park Board of Education, the Elmwood Park Zoning Board, the Elmwood Park Civic Foundation, the West Central Municipal Conference, and the Leyden Norwood Park Municipal League. He is also a former member of the Norwood Park Senior Home board of directors; and former chairman of the St. Vincent Ferrer Religious Education Advisory Board. He is the president of the Italian American Political Coalition, a member of the Justinian Society of Lawyers and Illinois State Bar Association, and an attorney of counsel to the law firm of Schain, Burney and Banks in Chicago. He is a graduate of DePaul University and its College of Law.
